Camperdown’s internationally significant statue of Scottish bard Robert Burns played host to some special guests from Russia on Thursday 10 March.
Nine students (aged 13-16), three teachers and two parents from School 606 Pushkin in St Petersburg travelled to Camperdown to see the statue – the oldest surviving statue of Burns in the world.
The students are currently visiting Princes Hill Secondary College in North Carlton and are self confessed Robert Burns fanatics.
They were joined by seven members of the Robert Burns Club of Melbourne, which funded a bus to bring the students to Camperdown for the day ... Читать дальше »

THREE cultures will meet in Camperdown this morning when a group of self-confessed Russian Robert Burns' fanatics travel to the town to inspect an internationally-significant statue of the Scottish bard.

Nine students, three teachers and two parents from School 606 Pushkin in St Petersburg are keen to see the world's oldest surviving statue of Burns which is on temporary display in the Corangamite Shire foyer awaiting restoration.

Aged between 13 and 16, the students are currently visiting Princes Hill Secondary College in North Carlton as part of an exchange program.
School 606 Pushkin has a close connection with Burns, whose work is entrenched in their curriculum.

THE unmistakably robust sound of bagpipes filled the air as Camperdown welcomed some very special visitors who travelled all the way from Russia with a love for Robert Burns and his poetry.
Their enthusiasm was palpable as they got up close to the town’s statue of Scotland’s favourite son before performing a selection of excerpts of their favourite Burns poems to a gathered crowd.
The nine students, aged from 13 to 16, three teachers and two parents from school 606 Pushkin in St Petersburg were visiting Melbourne and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see the world’s oldest surviving statue of Burns, who died in 1796.
